Ken Reed is an Active-Duty Master Sergeant with 18.5 years of service. Entering service at the age of 17 and starting his career as a Medic with the Infantry before later going Special Operations Civil Affairs. His career has spanned from Platoon and Team Medic to Team Sergeant and Company Operations Chief. Ken later took a position as the Senior Enlisted Medical Advisor and Operations Sergeant to the Special Operations Training Detachment-West. He has held positions as Medical and Combat Operations Instructor and Advisor in both desert and jungle environments. Ken has 6 deployments, 4 Joint Combined Exchange Training Programs, and 2 fused response programs during national disasters.
Ken was one of 12 children born in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and raised on a farm, and reminded through his entire life that he was nothing more than a poor farm kid and would never make anything of himself. Ken fought through his own personal issues and issues brought on by the drug and crime ridden environment that he was raised and left as soon as he could to join the U.S. Army. He proceeded to look for challenge after challenge to prove to himself and everyone else that no matter where you come from it does not define you.
A wise old man once told me, “You are who you think you are and if you think you’re nothing you are nothing,” this stuck with me and I have said this to seniors, peers, and subordinates throughout my career and now I say it to my children. Your body will never be the first thing to quit, it will be your mind and you will have to live with that failure.
Beyond The Trek seeks to develop individual personal lives, and become the person you want to see who is a leader to themselves and those that depend on them.
Ken has been married to Lacey for 11 years and they have three children JB Allen (15) Eliana (9) and Kennidy (8).
